We often are led to believe we in a free society have freedom of speech, a belief rappers have been time and time again shown to be not true. Lil Boosie, C Murder. Ra Diggs, and Bobby Shmurda are just a few of the rappers who have been taught the hard way freedom of speech does not exist, (for black rappers) Toronto rapper Avalanche The Architect has been the latest to be charged, the difference is that he is the first rapper or musician in this common wealth we call Canada to be charged in the manner he has been for his rap song. No one will deny Avalanches raps are over the top hyper violent, but it is how he raps, and as far as all records shows he has no criminal record for violence or anything for that matter despite being charged an unprecedented 21 times! yes 21! which he took all to trial and won. So we have a rapper with no criminal record being charged for making threats of violence in his songs and we have a white rapper Eminem who has gun possession charges and domestic charges, and he threatens to kill his ex wife and baby mom Kim in a track called Kim and its ok, the double standard is mind numbing. This video will be a part of Canadian history to show future generations how prevalent racial discrimination was in our society well past the 21st century. Avalanche still to this day is fighting the good fight, and is taking this case to the court of appeals and for this we hope the best as the future of urban music depends on his success.
