Over the past decade Manifesto Festival of Community & Culture has become Canada’s premier
celebration of hip hop culture and beyond. Manifesto’s multi-disciplinary, world-class festival is
committed to addressing the challenges faced by young artists including systemic exclusion and underresourcing of marginalized and racialized communities.
Founded in 2007, Manifesto’s mission has been to unite, inspire, and empower diverse communities of young people through arts and culture. In those ten years, thousands of talented young people have contributed to building Manifesto into an award-winning arts organization that has had a considerable impact in Toronto and beyond.
Music milestones over the years have included concerts by BADBADNOTGOOD, Jay Electronica, Black Thought, Jhene Aiko, Souls of Mischief, SZA and many more. Since Manifesto’s inception, over 1500 artists have been showcased attracting crowds of more than 50,000 in attendance every year.
Manifesto Festival of Community & Culture will mark a decade of building careers, fostering community connections and fuelling civic pride with ten days of massive concerts, art installations, dance showcases, and community summits all contributing to the vitality of the Toronto and Canada at large.
Manifesto Festival of Community & Culture was created after a small group of local artists, community organizers, and event promoters gathered at Toronto City Hall to discuss ideas for establishing a new urban arts platform. Identifying the challenges they faced, those young leaders pooled their passions, talent and resources to create opportunities to showcase local artists and organizations. Since then, Manifesto has become a non-profit, youth-powered platform designed to put local artists on the map and unite, inspire and empower diverse communities of young people through arts and culture, year-round.
