Meanwhile In Sauga: Police Chase Results In Car Crash On Burnhamthorpe Road
Police were called around 8:30 p.m. when the vehicle, a black pickup truck, was spotted driving erratically in the Hurontario Street and Burnhamthorpe Road area near the Square One mall in the central part of the city.
Peel Regional Police Const. Bally Saini says the vehicle refused to stop for police. It continued to evade police and damaged two police cars and a civilian vehicle.
The driver kept driving even after one of the vehicle’s tires became damaged — sending sparks flying as it drove down the street on the rim.
The pickup then crashed into a traffic light pole at a major intersection.
But the chase didn’t end there — the driver climbed out of the vehicle’s window and onto the street, before police officers tackled him. Another man who was a passenger was also detained by police.
The whole chase lasted about five minutes.
Bally says both men sustained only minor injuries.
The intersection where the collision took place was closed for hours for the police investigation.
Daniel Rahimi, 23, of Mississauga, has been charged with impaired driving, excess blood alcohol, flight from police and escaping lawful custody.
