Having Random People Dance To Dancehall Music LOL
As part of our new “People Dance to…” series, Word on the Curb sourced people from all around the UK, of various backgrounds to dance to Dancehall or sometimes referred to as Bashment music – a sound originating from Jamaica in the 1970s.
It started off as a loose offspring to reggae music, making extensive use of Jamaican patois and has often been noted for being vibrant, romantic and emphatic.
The likes of Vybz Kartel, Popcaan, Movado Elephant Man, Beenie Man and Buju Banton are noted for having a particularly strong influence on the genre.
We thought it would be particularly interesting to see how people – familiar or unfamiliar with the sound to respond to the music on the dance floor.
