Two Charged After Police Confirm Parkdale Explosion Was Drug-Related

Police have confirmed the explosion was caused by the ‘use of combustibles in a drug manufacturing manner.’

Toronto police have confirmed the explosion in a 19th floor apartment unit in a Parkdale highrise on Saturday afternoon was drug-related.

“It is safe to say that the explosion was caused by the use of combustibles in a drug manufacturing manner,” said Staff Sgt. Israel Bernardo of Toronto Police Services.

A man and a woman have been arrested in connection to the explosion. They are charged with arson and common nuisance.

The woman was arrested at the scene. The man was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, and was later arrested.

Both were occupants of the unit.

Bernardo added police are satisfied with the two arrests and are not looking for any other suspects.

The explosion occurred shortly before 3:30 p.m., said Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook. Emergency crews rushed to the highrise located at 105 West Lodge Ave., near Lansdowne Ave. and Queen St. W.

The explosion was isolated to the apartment, with no actual fire found at the scene.

Debris littered the area, Douglas-Cook said.

The debris included a full window frame and glass on the lawn in front of the building, with blinds hanging from a tree.

. Police are investigating with the help of the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office.

Details of the drug operation, as well as the names of the two arrested, have not yet been released.
